Watch the video: Mindful Reset: Sway
Early in my career, I witnessed a young nurse teach a new, anxious mother how to swaddle and sway her infant. How to pat and comfort the newborn to elicit a sense of calm.
As my career moved on, I realized that the art of sway was helpful for many folks. That sway could help them come out of their head and their worried and thinking minds, and back into their bodies.
All our cells remain in motion. Our ears vibrate, our lungs expand, our heart beats. To be alive is to be moving. Just as the wind blows the branch, we too can sway. And sometimes we can coordinate that sway with our breathing. We can bring softness and gentleness to the inhale. And as we exhale, we can let go of fear and worry.
That motion really is a bit of calm for our nervous systems in our turbulent and stressful lives.
