Watch the video: The Athlete’s Mindset: The emotional toll of injuries

When your child sustains an injury, it can affect their mind just as much as their body. Here's what parents need to know about the psychological side of injuries.

When an injury occurs, it's common for athletes to feel emotions like shock, disbelief, isolation or anxiety. It may even turn into fear. Fear of re-injury or of losing their place on the team.

Encourage your athlete to talk about their feelings. Seek support from teammates or coaches, and consider working with a sports psychologist. When they learn to meet psychological challenges head-on, athletes can come back stronger, both mentally and physically. That resilience can come in handy in sports and in life.

Keep moving forward.
