We find candles in our churches, monasteries and temples. I like to light a candle in the early morning when I'm going to write or read or pray. And sometimes, I look at the candle flicker, and I think about how it moves. It moves a little bit like breathing. It flickers.
The flame reminds me that the warmth of that light, the luminescence of that light, doesn't light a whole room. It just lights a little bit of space, enough for a step or to write.
And so, it is with hope and gratitude and finding one's way in the darkness. Sometimes, it's just a little bit of the flicker that we need. Consider lighting a candle, watching it burn and noticing its warmth. Breath the pause.
