It can be intimidating starting a new workout program, whether you’re just getting started or returning from a hiatus. You are not alone! Building a community or finding a workout buddy is an incredible way to get into the active scene. From in-person to streaming services, there are endless ways to build a community and find just what you are looking for.
Preferences
First, think about what you want! Make a list (mental or visual), where you work through the activities you like to do or want to try, your wellness goals, social and additional preferences.
Tap into others
Second, you don’t have to go far. Check in with your circles. Ask friends, family and/or co-workers if they or someone they know may be interested in what you’re looking for. Maybe you want to meet up twice a week at the local gym. Maybe you are hoping to find someone to hold you accountable for a Saturday morning run. See who wants to join you in this workout journey and help keep each other stay on track.
Connect online
Third, if your social battery gets zapped quickly but you still want to be more active, there are tons of online communities. Local social media and neighborhood groups are great places to find like-minded folks. Don’t be afraid to download a workout app on your phone. Plenty of apps that track lifting, walking, cardio, athletics or whatever you are interested in have the benefit of a community within it for accountability, goal setting and/or making friends.
Most importantly, have fun and enjoy your journey!
