Our teams often sit down with patients who are trying to make sense of changes to their insurance coverage. Many are older adults who have seen the same doctors for years — decades, even — and suddenly find themselves unsure whether they can continue seeing the providers they trust. I hear the worry in their voices. I see the frustration on their faces.
As a physician, I get particularly concerned when I see seniors who are facing a change as a result of Anthem's relationship with Parkview for Medicare Advantage, which ended at the close of 2025.
We understand that healthcare is personal. Health coverage decisions affect real people, real families and meaningful relationships with caregivers. If that coverage changes, it might feel overwhelming and deeply unsettling. The good news is, each year, Medicare Advantage rules allow patients to make a change now if they want their Parkview physician to remain in network.
From Jan. 1 through March 31, certain seniors may use a supplemental Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period to review and adjust their Medicare Advantage enrollment if it doesn’t fit their needs or provide them access to their preferred providers. During this period, beneficiaries who find their physician is not in network may:
- Switch to another Medicare Advantage plan that better aligns with their care preferences.
- Return to Original Medicare (Parts A and B) and add a Part D prescription drug plan if needed.
Reviewing Medicare and Medicare Advantage coverage options can be complicated, and it’s often difficult to know which option best fits your needs. But help is available, and at no cost. Parkview partners with two resources that offer personalized guidance:
- Indiana’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), which provides unbiased, nonprofit counseling to all Medicare beneficiaries.
- Licensed Medicare advisors via eHealth, who can review benefits and help patients understand their health coverage options.
These services are designed specifically to help older adults make informed decisions about their health coverage. Details and contact information, as well as a list of all Medicare Advantage plans in which Parkview participates, are available at parkview.com/medicare.
Everyone deserves to feel supported as they navigate decisions about their health coverage. If you are unsure about your coverage choices or are concerned about how changes affect your access to care, please use the resources available. Ask questions. Explore your options during this Open Enrollment Period.
Please know that you have choices, and support is available to help you work through them.
