Schrock talks upcoming induction into Komets Hall of Fame

January 21, 2020

The Fort Wayne Komets will add two significant names to their Hall of Fame in March.

Former captain Kaleigh Schrock and legendary hockey broadcaster Mike "Doc" Emrick will be inducted during a special ceremony March 7 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

Schrock is the hometown boy who starred for the Komets for six seasons. He skated 439 career games, scoring 81 goals, 71 assists, 152 points and 854 penalty minutes with the K's. He was part of the 2012 CHL Presidents Cup and 2010 IHL Turner Cup championship teams.

Now, Schrock serves as the head coach for the USPHL's Fort Wayne Spacemen junior hockey team and hockey director at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse. He previously served as head coach for the Summit City Panthers, winning the state hockey title in 2018.

Emrick is the lead announcer for NHL broadcasts with NBC Sports. The Wabash County native began his professional broadcasting career in 1973, and has called 22 straight Stanley Cup Finals. Emrick is the first media member inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame, and is one of five media members ever to receive the Lester Patrick Award for outstanding service to hockey in the United States.  Emrick was nominated by late Komets broadcaster Bob Chase before Chase died.

The Komets Hall of Fame started in 1988, and is divided into three sections: team personnell, media and executive builders.

The Komets face Kalamazoo in the 2020 Hall of Fame game with a 7:30 p.m. faceoff.
