Empowered's Reagan Denning signs with Erskine beach volleyball

January 15, 2020

Empowered Volleyball Academy player Reagan Denning will play collegiate beach volleyball after signing her national letter of intent January 14.

Denning was flanked by her parents and sister while signing with Erskine College, an NCAA Division II program in Due West, South Carolina.

Denning hails from Hicksville, Ohio, and has played volleyball since she was a little girl. She played indoor volleyball at Hicksville High School through her sophomore year and and beach and indoor volleyball at Empowered for the last 5 years. In the last year, she’s focused entirely on beach volleyball and the recruiting process that has gone along with it.

“We traveled a lot," she says. "We went to Florida, California, South Carolina, Georgia; all the warm states - and even some of the cold states, too. You just had to try your best, and hope someone noticed you.”

Beach volleyball is the fastest growing sport in the NCAA, according to Empowered Sports Club CEO Will Robbins. Nearly 200 schools have started beach volleyball programs since the sport was sanctioned starting in the fall of 2015.

Erskine is a brand new volleyball program that will begin play this spring. The Flying Fleet will play in Conference Carolinas.

Denning plans to study pre-med biology.
