Spacemen add Huffman to inaugural roster

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne Spacemen have added another player with ties to the Summit City to their roster.

Forward Trey Huffman is the latest player to sign with the upstart junior hockey team, which will play its home games at SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.

"I'm super excited to know I'm going to play here for the next year and play for the hometown team," Huffman tells ParkviewSportsMedicine.com. "(Schrock) was a guy I watched growing up and kind of admired."

Huffman, who played high school hockey for Carroll and club hockey with the Parkview Sports Medicine Force 18U team of the Fort Wayne Amateur Hockey Association, describes himself as an a agressive player, fast on his feet and someone who likes to mix it up.

"Trey's an agitator on the ice," Schrock says. "He's also very skilled. The biggest thing for Trey is getting him buying into the team philosophy. Because, he's going to go out there and draw penalties for us. We want to make sure that Trey stays out of the box, too. He can really impact the game. He has that type of skill and speed."

Huffman is the third player to sign with the Spacemen, and Schrock says additional players will be announced in the weeks to come. With the forwards taking shape, Schrock says the process has focused on finding defensemen and goaltenders before the team reports the beginning of September.

The Spacemen open their inaugural season in the U.S. Premier Hockey League's Elite Division on Sept. 14 in Dyer, Indiana, against the Midwestern Blackbirds. The home opener is September 28 against Motor City Hockey Club.
