Doehrmann new athletic director at North Side

March 3, 2017

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - North Side High School has turned to an alumnus to lead the athletic department.

Kirk Doehrmann started as the new athletic director on Feb. 20. His hiring was approved by the Fort Wayne Community Schools board on Feb. 27.

Doehrmann graduated from North Side in 1987, and helped the football team as an assistant coach in the late-1980s and early-1990s.

He worked under Dale Doerffler, the longtime football coach and athletic director who retired at the end of last school year.

“When this opened up, I thought I get an opportunity to come home," Doehrmann says. "And an opportunity to replace somebody I admire."

Before returning to North Side, Doehrmann was the business manager at Whitley County Consolidated Schools. Prior, he was principal at Tippecanoe Valley High School in Akron, Ind.

Doehrmann says he hopes to build on the recent success of the Legends basketball program for other sports in the school, and build a strong relationship with North Side alumni who take pride in athletic programs.

Between Doerffler and Doehrmann, former Snider football coach and athletic director Russ Isaacs was served as interim AD at North Side.
