After Heritage’s monster upset of South Adams last Friday night, Patriot head coach Casey Kolkman has been named Colts/NFL Coach of the Week.
Heritage rallied from a 13-0 deficit to beat the Starfires 28-27. It was the first time Heritage beat South Adams since 2015.
Heritage quarterback Kobe Meyer found Tanner Whitman for the game-winning touchdown with 29 seconds remaining. Meyer finished 15-of-30 with 155 passing yards, one passing touchdown, 71 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.
Defensively, the Patriots forced three South Adams fumbles—two recovered by Dalton White, one by Alex Martin—to help in the effort. The three takeaways were the Patriots’ first of the season.
Heritage (3-1, 2-0 in the Allen County Athletic Conference) stands atop the league standings. The Patriots are off to their best start since 2014.
As part of the recognition, Heritage High School received a $2,000 donation for the athletic department--$1,000 from the NFL Foundation and $1,000 from CenterPoint Energy.
Former NFL safety Mike Prior, who now serves as Colts Youth Football Commissioner, Colts Youth visited Heirtage Leo football team Wednesday morning to congratulate Sauder on being named Colts/NFL Coach of the Week. He also presented the school with a $2,000 donation--$1,000 from the NFL Foundation and $1,000 from CenterPoint Energy.
Each Monday during the season, the Indianapolis Colts name a Coach of the Week from the high school head coaches across the Hoosier State. In addition to team's on-field performance, coaches are evaluated for impact on the team, the school and the community. Winners are chosen by a panel of football media, former athletic directors and other football officials across the state.
Kolkman is 9-15 nearing the halfway point of his third season at his alma mater. He previously was head coach at North Side and Bluffton.
