The facts about the innovations and commitments behind our effort to drive down the cost of care
Independent hospitals and physician practices face growing challenges, from rising technology costs and workforce shortages to reimbursement pressures and increasing administrative complexity. Some believe providers must choose between remaining independent and gaining access to the resources needed to succeed in today's healthcare environment.
We believe there is another option. By sharing operational infrastructure and technology resources, independent providers can benefit from greater scale while preserving local ownership, governance and decision-making.
Addressing the intense operational pressures on smaller providers
Some critics worry that consolidation will eliminate competition and harm local communities. We offer a different path by building infrastructure that explicitly preserves community care. We believe that supporting independent providers is central to protecting the broader safety net of regional healthcare.
Trusted management solutions through UpVia Health
In 2025, we launched UpVia Health to empower local providers. UpVia Health is a dedicated Management Services Organization engineered to support independent clinicians and hospitals. Our goal is to provide these critical neighborhood operators with trusted management solutions and robust back-office capabilities. Smaller providers cannot economically build these massive systems from scratch, so we are sharing ours.
Doing so protects access to care in rural communities.
Through UpVia Health, independent hospitals can tap directly into our purchasing scale, information technology and revenue cycle management. This allows them to significantly lower their overhead costs and improve their operational efficiency. Most importantly, it allows independent providers to keep their full independence and local governance while enjoying the benefits of a large-scale network.
“As a healthcare solutions partner, our company equips independent providers with the operational scale and support of a large health system – while maintaining local autonomy,” said Lainie Dean, chief of commercial partnerships at Parkview Health. “Our goal is to empower our customers by providing scalable solutions that strengthen their operations and help them maintain their independence. We become the engine behind their upward journey.”
Securing integrated data networks with Parkview Connect
We also support integrated community care through Parkview Connect. This program allows independent clinicians to access the exact same electronic health record software used throughout our flagship network offices.
Clinicians can securely access patient data anytime without having to make massive financial investments to buy the software alone. We believe that a healthier Indiana and northwest Ohio requires a strong, diverse ecosystem of care. By sharing our scale and tools, we are helping independent healthcare stay alive and thrive in the communities they serve.
“Parkview Health is proud to be industry-leading in safety and quality, patient experience and workplace culture,” said Dr. Ray Dusman, president of physician and clinical enterprise, Parkview Health. “Upvia Health is a natural transition to share that expertise with other hospitals and physicians to create a healthier future for all.”
The impact
In small and mid-sized communities, the hospital is far more than a place of care. It is often the largest employer, a stabilizing economic force, and a symbol of local security and resilience. When hospitals weaken, communities weaken.
UpVia Health exists to ensure that doesn’t happen. When hospitals thrive, communities endure.
“We understand the complex challenges of healthcare and how to navigate them,” added Dean. “Through Upvia Health, we can address those challenges with an ala carte suite of solutions tailored to each hospital and physician practice’s unique needs. Ultimately, we’re here to help hospitals and physicians ensure their communities have access to high-quality care for years to come.”
