Two Parkview Health hospitals recognized with ‘A’ Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

FORT WAYNE, IND. – MAY 10, 2022 – Two Parkview Health hospitals received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for spring 2022.

An “A” grade was awarded to Parkview Regional Medical Center and Affiliates as well as Parkview Huntington Hospital. This national distinction recognizes Parkview’s achievements in protecting patients from harm or error.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

This marks the sixth consecutive “A” for Parkview Regional Medical Center and Affiliates, and the second consecutive “A” for Parkview Huntington Hospital. Parkview Noble Hospital and Parkview Whitley Hospital received “B” grades for the spring period, and Parkview DeKalb Hospital received a “C” grade. A grade was not calculated for Parkview LaGrange Hospital or Parkview Wabash Hospital because the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade does not assess critical access hospitals due to limitations and exclusions in publicly available data.

“Parkview Health is committed to providing a safe environment for our patients and co-workers,” said Jeffrey Boord, MD, MPH, chief quality and safety officer, Parkview Health. “The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade allows us to recognize the hard work and dedication of our teams while discovering opportunities for improvement. We will continue to analyze the information from Leapfrog as feedback that will help us deliver safe, high-quality care.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, said, “As our healthcare system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of Parkview Regional Medical Center and Parkview Huntington Hospital for sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out. An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”
