Parkview Trauma Centers receive re-verification as Level II Adult and Pediatric Trauma Centers

FORT WAYNE, IND. (March 27, 2018) – Parkview Regional Medical Center has been re-verified as both a Level II Trauma Center and a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma (COT) by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This achievement recognizes Parkview Trauma Centers’ dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.

Established by the ACS in 1987, the COT's Consultation/Verification Program for Hospitals promotes the development of trauma centers in which participants provide not only the hospital resources necessary for trauma care, but also the entire spectrum of care to address the needs of all injured patients. This spectrum encompasses the pre-hospital phase through the rehabilitation process.

“At Parkview, we’re committed to high quality care throughout each phase of a patient’s journey,” said Ben Miles, president, Parkview Regional Medical Center and affiliates. “In the event of trauma, that includes a patient’s transportation to the hospital, emergency care, critical care services, medical or surgical needs, post-acute care and rehabilitation. Our re-verification by the VRC is a direct reflection of the excellent care our teams are providing every day.”

Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the COT in its current Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual. Each hospital undergoes an on-site review by a team of experienced site reviewers, who use the current manual as a guideline in conducting the survey.
