During Child Passenger Safety Week, caregivers are urged to choose the right seat, install it properly and buckle children every time

“Car seats and booster seats should be appropriate to the child’s age, height and weight,” said Leslie Miller, RN, IBCLC, child passenger safety technician and birth planner, Parkview Hospital Randallia. “In addition to having the right seat for the child, it should be properly installed and regularly used.”
During each check, a certified car seat safety technician will inspect seats and make necessary adjustments to better protect children in the event of a crash. The technician will also be available to answer questions about car seat safety.
“Ideally, car seats should be inspected at birth; when the child has outgrown a seat and a new one has been installed; and after a motor vehicle crash,” Miller added.
Free, private car seat checks can also be scheduled with a certified technician at Parkview Hospital Randallia or Parkview Whitley Hospital, which serve as permanent fitting stations. Reservations may be made by calling Parkview Hospital Randallia at 877-774-8632 or Parkview Whitley Hospital at 260-248-9426.
