Parkview Health advocates for life-saving cancer screenings via new ‘Show Up for Them’ campaign

Initiative aims to boost early detection rates through outreach and education

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Oct. 31, 2025Parkview Health has launchedShow Up for Them, a new public awareness campaign encouraging adults ages 40 to 75 across northern Indiana and northwest Ohio to prioritize routine cancer screenings.

The campaign aims to reduce preventable cancer deaths by helping more people detect cancer early, when treatment is most effective. The effort focuses on five key screening areas: breast, lung, colorectal, prostate and cervical cancers.

"We know the earlier cancer is found, the better the chance for a positive outcome,” said Dr. Alan Yahanda, president, Parkview Packnett Family Cancer Institute (PFCI). "But too many people put off screenings because of fear, lack of time or uncertainty. This campaign reminds our community that showing up for your screening is a way to show up for the people who matter most."

Built around the message "show up for the ones you care about by showing up for your screening," the campaign implores residents to view screenings not as a chore, but as an act of love, responsibility and self-care.

"Parkview is committed to removing barriers that often keep people from being proactive about their health," said Megan Smith, chief operating officer and senior vice president, PFCI. "Through several efforts, we’re meeting people where they are to make cancer screenings as convenient as possible. Early detection not only saves lives — it can also prevent the need for more complex or costly care down the road.”

TheShow Up for Them campaign is supported by a range of local initiatives designed to make screenings and other resources more accessible, including:

  • The Francine’s Friends Mobile Mammography coach, bringing screenings to neighborhoods across the region (service is provided year-round).
  • Educational content on how the DNA Insights program, launched earlier this year, helps identify individuals who may be at higher risk for certain cancers — information that can guide personalized screening recommendations.
  • PBS Healthline episode on Tuesday, Nov. 4, where Dr. Yahanda will explain lung cancer causes, detection, and treatment; viewers are welcome to ask questions during the live show.
  • National Lung Cancer Screening Day screenings on Nov. 8 across the Parkview service area, with additional appointment slots available.

“This campaign speaks directly to the heart of our people — those with strong Midwestern values who consistently put others first,” said Sangeetha Ragavan, vice president of marketing, Parkview Health. “With Show Up For Them, we’re turning that same instinct to care for others into a powerful reason to care for yourself, shifting the mindset from someday to today. You’re there for your kids, your parents, your friends and neighbors; getting your screening is one of the best ways to keep showing up for the people you love.”
