Parkview Health enhances Virtual Walk-In Clinic

FORT WAYNE, IND. – SEPT. 20, 2023 – Recent enhancements to Parkview Health’s Virtual Walk-In Clinic are making it even easier for patients to receive care, whenever and wherever they need it. The changes are being announced as Parkview and The American Telemedicine Association celebrate Telehealth Awareness Week

Thanks to recent updates, Parkview’s Virtual Walk-In Clinic is now open 24/7, and is available for patients located in all 50 states. The service is also completely integrated into Parkview MyChart, which creates a seamless experience for users and allows all providers (whether in-person or virtual) to access medical information for care. Additionally, patients now have the option to schedule same-day appointments for the Virtual Walk-In Clinic, subject to availability.

“Parkview’s Virtual Walk-In Clinic has always been a convenient option for non-emergency care, but we’ve made it even better by expanding our offering and streamlining the experience,” said Dr. Sara Herstad, Virtual Care section lead, Parkview Physicians Group. “By making it easier to access our virtual services, we’re helping to eliminate gaps where patients would have otherwise delayed or avoided care. We’re also creating better continuity of care by making their information readily available to all of their providers, whether in-person and virtual.”

To create these enhancements, Parkview recently partnered with KeyCare, a network of independent virtual care providers. KeyCare uses an Epic-based telehealth platform, which allows for integration with Parkview’s Epic-based system, including MyChart.

Parkview providers located in Indiana and Ohio will continue to care for the majority of patients who use the Virtual Walk-In Clinic during regular business hours. However, KeyCare’s providers extend service availability by caring for patients during overnight hours and during periods of high demand, when additional providers may be needed to reduce wait times. KeyCare providers can also care for patients in all 50 states, allowing patients to access Parkview’s Virtual Walk-In Clinic when traveling.

Previously, patients who needed after-hours care or care while traveling had to use a separate application and create an additional account. The service could not access or share medical information with MyChart.

“Whether it’s the middle of the night, or you’re across the country, Parkview’s Virtual Walk-In Clinic will be there for you,” said Maximilian Maile, senior vice president of digital health, Parkview Health. “Our recent enhancements create a singular, seamless experience, and we can’t wait for our patients to see how easy it is to access the care they need, no matter the time or the location.”

The Parkview Virtual Walk-In Clinic is accessible via MyChart on any smartphone, tablet, or computer. Providers are available to treat and diagnose many non-emergency medical issues and, if necessary, send a prescription to the patient’s pharmacy of choice.

Common conditions treated include:

  • Cold, cough, flu
  • Allergies
  • Pink eye
  • Sore throat
  • Respiratory issues
  • Sinus problems
  • Skin problems

Insurance is accepted; however, during extended service availability and overnight hours, periods of high volume, or when patients are located outside of Indiana or Ohio, visits are $49. You do not need to be established with a Parkview provider to use the Virtual Walk-In Clinic.

The Virtual Walk-In Clinic is available for patients of all ages. Patients under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present during online visits.
