To make breast cancer screenings more accessible during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Parkview Bryan Hospital is offering Saturday morning mammogram appointments during the month of October.

Saturdays, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31
9 a.m. – 1 p.m. by appointment only

WHERE:
Parkview Physicians Group office, 442 W. High St., Bryan, Ohio

WHO SHOULD SCHEDULE:
Women ages 40-plus who have not had a mammogram in the past year.

American Cancer Society screening guidelines for women at average risk of breast cancer state that women between ages 40 and 44 have the option to start screening with a mammogram every year. Women ages 45 – 54 should get mammograms annually. Women 55 and older may continue annual mammograms or switch to screening every other year. They should continue to get screening mammograms as long as they are in good health and expect to live at least 10 more years.

Although women are diagnosed in much greater numbers, men can get breast cancer, too. It is recommended they speak with their primary care provider about whether they have a family history of breast cancer that may make a mammogram advisable.

WHY IT MATTERS:

The best protection is early detection. If breast cancer is found early, while it’s small and has not yet spread to other parts of the body, treatment is much more likely to be successful.

“The five-year survival rate for early breast cancer is now over 95% thanks to advances in detection and treatment,” said Dr. Patricia Clark, breast surgeon, Parkview Packnett Family Cancer Institute Breast Care Team. “Mammograms are still the best method to detect cancers. Early detection can also lead to less invasive treatment. Early detection saves lives!”

Why else should you get screened? Four words: Show Up for Them. Show up for the people who are important to you and care about you. You already do so much for others. Take care of your health so you can keep being there for them. Getting a mammogram is a great way to show up for them – and for yourself.
