BRYAN, OHIO – May 21, 2025 – Parkview Bryan Hospital has been selected as one of the nation’s Top 20 rural and community hospitals by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA).
The hospitals are identified using the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX, the most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural Prospective Payment System (PPS) hospital performance. The determining factors for the top 20 rural and community hospitals are based on eight indices: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge, and finance.
Parkview Bryan Hospital, along with Parkview Huntington Hospital, was named to Chartis’ Top 100 list in February. Parkview Bryan has made Chartis’ Top 100 list for six consecutive years, but this is the first time it has appeared in the Top 20. The NRHA does not individually rank its Top 20 hospitals.
“We’re exceptionally proud to be recognized among the Top 20 best rural hospitals in America,” said Chad Tinkel, market president, Parkview Health Ohio. “Rural hospitals across the nation are facing increasingly large challenges, but our hospital has not only been able to maintain services but also grow our offerings to the northwest Ohio community. Beyond receiving high-quality care and an excellent experience at our hospital, our patients have access to the full support of the wider Parkview system and its many physicians, specialists and services.”
Parkview Bryan Hospital, along with Parkview Montpelier Hospital and the Parkview Archbold Outpatient Center, joined the system in fall 2023. It’s Parkview’s largest community hospital by bed count, with 45 inpatient beds and 13 bassinets in its birthing center.
Since then, the hospital has made new capital investments including its linear accelerator and da Vinci robotic surgery system; received its first “A” grade in fall 2024 and “B” grade this spring from the twice-annual Leapfrog Safety Grades; was recognized with Performance Leadership Awards from Chartis in 2023 and 2024; and achieved a three-star rating on the Ohio First Steps program for breastfeeding support.
“Parkview Bryan Hospital is a shining example of how to provide high-quality care, excellent experience and great value to patients,” said Dr. Greg Johnson, regional market president, Parkview Health. “Community hospitals’ strength is in providing the care people need close to home. Parkview’s nine rural hospitals serve as the frontline of community care and a gateway to a wider offering of services if or when patients need them.”

These hospitals will be recognized on May 22 during NRHA’s Annual Rural Health Conference in Atlanta.
