All Indiana Parkview hospitals awarded ‘A’ in spring Hospital Safety Grades from The Leapfrog Group

FORT WAYNE, IND. – May 1, 2024 – Once again, all five Parkview Health hospitals in Indiana received “A” grades in the Hospital Safety Grades released by The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit focused on patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers.

Parkview Regional Medical Center & Affiliates, Parkview DeKalb Hospital, Parkview Huntington Hospital, Parkview Noble Hospital and Parkview Whitley Hospital all received top grades for the spring 2024 rating, the second consecutive all-A report card after achieving the same feat in fall 2023.

Leapfrog assigns an A-F grade to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

Parkview Regional Medical Center (PRMC) has scored an “A” on 20 of 22 Leapfrog report cards dating back to 2013. Parkview DeKalb, Parkview Huntington and Parkview Noble all scored their fourth consecutive “A” grades, while Parkview Whitley received its third consecutive “A.” Ohio’s Parkview Bryan Hospital, which affiliated with Parkview in October 2023, did not participate in the survey and was assigned average scores by Leapfrog, resulting in a “C” grade for spring 2024.

“Parkview remains committed to safety, both for patients and our co-workers,” said Dr. Jeffrey Boord, chief quality and safety officer, Parkview Health. “Parkview’s culture of safety starts with each individual co-worker doing their part and remaining vigilant. We’re proud to be recognized with multiple ‘A’ grades from Leapfrog Group this spring, continuing a streak of excellence at our hospitals.”

Parkview LaGrange Hospital, Parkview Wabash Hospital and Parkview Montpelier Hospital are not graded because Leapfrog does not assess critical access hospitals due to limitations on publicly available data from those smaller facilities. Parkview Orthopedic Hospital is also not graded by Leapfrog because it is a specialty hospital.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
