A colonoscopy is the best way to prevent colon cancer
Colon cancer is the third most common cancer in both men and women in the United States. But with early detection, it’s highly treatable. Through a colonoscopy screening, your physician can even remove any suspicious polyps, so they never even have a chance to grow and potentially become cancerous. All of this is why it’s so important to show up for your colonoscopy.
Screening guidelines
- Adults aged 45 and older: Regular screening with a colonoscopy every 10 years, or other tests like stool-based tests (every 1 to 3 years), depending on the method chosen.
- High-Risk Individuals: Those with a family history of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, or certain genetic syndromes (such as Lynch syndrome) may need earlier and more frequent screening.
