Venous Disease

What is venous disease?

Venous disease includes several conditions involving the vessels that carry blood from the body back to the heart. The most recognized of these is venous insufficiency, (or venous reflux disease) and varicose veins. Venous Insufficiency is caused by unhealthy valves in the veins allowing blood to flow in the wrong direction (venous reflux). About 25 percent of the global adult population (30 million people) are affected by venous reflux disease. However, only 1 percent are actually treated. With proper treatment, the progressive symptoms of venous reflux disease are preventable and delaying treatment may cause health consequences.
