Women & Children

Becoming a grandparent is one of the most rewarding relationships you will ever experience. You will feel that unconditional love again but a lot has changed since you were a new parent. Did you know Parkview Whitley Hospital offers a class where new grandparents can brush up on their childcare skills for newborns? We asked Laurie Nierman, RN, BSN, family birth planner, Parkview Whitley Hospital (PWH), to tell us more about grandparent classes offered at PWH and what you can expect to learn.

This class covers a range of topics relevant to the care of infants including:

The class will also cover the Period of PURPLE Crying®, a phrase that is used to help parents recognize and identify normal crying behaviors that all babies go through.

The word “PURPLE” is an acronym for:

P: Peak of crying
U: Unexpected
R: Resists soothing
P: Pain-like face
L: Long lasting
E: Evening.

There are two opportunities available to take this class.
