Graduation gift ideas for healthy campus living

It’s the season of turning tassels and a parade of graduation celebrations. Gift the grads in your life with a bundle that promotes healthy choices and a safe commute.

A First Aid Kit

Jay Curry, RN, Paramedic, PI, supervisor/flight EMS, Parkview Samaritan, suggests creating a kit with these essentials for the college-age patient:

  • Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for aches and fever
  • Thermometer
  • Band-Aids
  • Gauze bandages
  • First aid tape
  • Ace bandage
  • Alcohol pads
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Aloe lotion for sunburn
  • Ice pack
  • Tweezers
  • Allergy medicine
  • Cold/Cough medicine
  • Diarrhea medication
  • Scissors
  • Cough drops
  • Sore throat lozenges
  • Flu medicine
  • Other standard medications that your student takes
  • A small book of first aid procedures
  • Medical History Card with emergency contacts

Roadside Safety Kit

Any student with a short daily or long weekend commute should have a trunk stocked with these precautionary products, recommended by Thomas Rhoades, Parkview Chief of Police and Corporate Director of Public Safety.

  • Flashlight
  • Flares
  • Reflective cones
  • Emergency blanket
  • Jumper cables
  • Minor first aid items
  • Tire repair kit and pump
  • Cell phone charger

Supplies for Smart Eating

Consider setting your college student up for dietary success by gifting them with a subscription to a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) box or fruit of the month club. Another option would be a stylish lunch cooler with healthy recipe cards and a gift card to a local natural grocery store.

Clean Sweep

Germs spread quickly in dorm and classroom settings. Assemble an assortment of disinfecting cleaning supplies in a cute plastic carrier to encourage a weekly wipe down. Another popular option is a laundry bag or basket filled with laundry detergent and rolls of quarters.

For a Fit Future

Habits that follow us through life, both good and bad, are often formed during the college years. Make sure movement makes the cut by gifting your grad with workout gear, a new yoga mat and a generously sized water bottle.
