Dedicated Expertise in Skin Cancers

At Parkview Cancer Institute, we have a team of board-certified and fellowship-trained cancer specialists who are dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers. We are committed to treating the whole patient – not just the cancer cells. In addition to aggressive and effective cancer-fighting therapies, our oncology team provides holistic healing support. We aim to make your cancer treatment as comfortable as possible, including minimally invasive treatment options and a state-of-the-art infusion therapy setting.

Multidisciplinary Care for Skin Cancer

Our physicians are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer, including melanoma. Melanoma is the rarest yet the most dangerous form of skin cancer. Though melanoma makes up less than one percent of all skin cancer cases, it causes the majority of skin cancer deaths.

Our care teams for skin cancer are comprised of a wide range of specialists who collaborate to deliver better cancer care. These teams can include:

  • Dermatologists
  • Radiologists
  • Medical oncologists
  • Radiation oncologists
  • Surgical oncologists
  • Patient navigators
  • Genetic counselors

By bringing these specialists together, we combine focused expertise with an integrated approach for better care.

Skin Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

Skin cancer is very common in the U.S., particularly among people with fair skin. Our team at Parkview Cancer Institute can provide annual skin cancer screenings to check for any abnormalities. The best protection against skin cancer is prevention. Always wear broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen and avoid direct sunlight exposure for long periods of time.

If you find any suspicious areas that may indicate skin cancer, a biopsy may be required to take a closer look at the skin tissue. To check for metastases or the spread of the cancer throughout the body, a CT scan may be ordered. With our advanced diagnostic imaging and dedicated expertise, our oncology team can quickly determine the type of cancer and the recommended treatment plan. Common skin cancer procedures and treatments include:

  • Biotherapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Cryosurgery
  • CyberKnife®
  • Excisional surgery for mole or suspicious growth removal
  • Radiation therapy
  • Reconstructive surgery
  • Surgical removal of cancerous growth
