Michael Kellermeier has always led an active lifestyle and describes himself as someone who can't stay still for long. Living at Clear Lake, he spends much of his time on the water, participating in yacht club activities and racing sailboats. When lake season gives way to colder weather, he snowmobiles in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He also keeps an evolving bucket list of experiences he hopes to have, such as ziplining, snow skiing, kayaking and skydiving, to name a few.
But at 57, an ordinary movement, picking up a piece of firewood, caused Michael to suffer a spinal cord injury resulting in paralysis. Suddenly, pursuing his love of adventure looked different. He'd have to learn how to do it from a wheelchair. Fortunately, his loved ones, lake community and care team members from Parkview Rehabilitation Center and Parkview ONE were there to support him.
