Parkview Stanley Wissman Stroke Center recertified as Comprehensive Stroke Center

FORT WAYNE, IND. – OCT. 5, 2021 – The Parkview Stanley Wissman Stroke Center, located on the Parkview Regional Medical Center campus, has received recertification from DNV as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, reflecting the highest level of competence for treatment of serious stroke events.

The DNV Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification is based on standards set forth by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association, and affirms that each certified stroke center provides the full spectrum of stroke care – diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education – and establishes clear metrics to evaluate outcomes.

“With stroke care, you must have the best clinicians and resources, but also the ability to act organizationally with extreme efficiency because of the time-critical nature of these events,” said Fen-Lei Chang, M.D., Ph.D., medical director, Parkview Neurosciences. “This certification from DNV validates all the effort we have put into this program and to ensuring the health and safety of our patients.”

“Achieving certification shows commitment to excellence,” says Patrick Horine, president of DNV Healthcare USA Inc. “And it helps demonstrate to your community that you are performing at the highest level.”

According to DNV, comprehensive stroke centers are typically the largest and best-equipped hospitals in a given geographical area that can treat any kind of stroke or stroke complication. In a growing number of states, stroke center certification determines to which facility a patient should be taken for the most appropriate, reimbursable care.

The Parkview Stanley Wissman Stroke Center is supported by a comprehensive care team comprised of physicians, nurses, radiology technicians, lab personnel, pharmacists, physical and occupational therapists, dietitians and more. The center is named for the late Stanley Wissman, MD, a widely respected Fort Wayne neurologist who advocated for development of stroke rehabilitation services. The center also provides services at Parkview Hospital Randallia, which is certified as a Primary Stroke Care Center and is also a destination for expert stroke care.
