YMCA branches offer swimming, indoor track, fitness equipment, basketball courts and a variety of classes including yoga, Zumba® and spinning. Walking

Walking is a great form of exercise you can enjoy with the entire family, even in chilly weather. Let your kids create a fun route in your neighborhood. You can check the distance you travel by logging onto www.gmpa-pedometer.com.

The Rivergreenway Trail

This is a 24-mile paved trail along the banks of the St. Mary’s, St. Joseph and Maumee rivers. The trail’s pathways run north, south, east and west of the city, encompassing a variety of natural vistas, scenic overlooks and historical points of interest.Check out www.fortwayneparks.org, mouse over “Trails” on the top menu and click “Rivergreenway.”

In January 2011, Fort Wayne Trails was developed to merge three area non-profit trail initiatives: Aboite New Trails, Greenway Consortium and Northwest Allen Trails. There are 65 miles of trails with plans to extend the trails in every direction. Visit www.fwtrails.org for more information.

In addition, Parkview Family Park, on the campus of the Parkview Regional Medical Center, features paved paths for walking or running (and the playground is fantastic!).

Walking is available at Parkview Field in downtown Fort Wayne from 7 a.m. to dusk.
