Dr. Fawver is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and has been a recipient of the American Psychiatric Association Award for Excellence in Medical Student Education. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with the subspecialty of Geriatric Psychiatry. A graduate of the Purdue University School of Pharmacy, Dr. Fawver was a hospital pharmacist prior to completing his medical training. He has been an advisor to several pharmaceutical companies for more than 20 years, participating as a principal investigator and assisting in the development of medication studies for mood disorders and outcomes of disease states such as fibromyalgia.
Dr. Fawver has lectured to psychiatrists and healthcare professionals nationally and internationally on the topics of psychosis, dementia, ADHD, mood disorders, weight management and the neurobiology of psychiatric conditions. He has been a regular host and moderator on the Distance Learning Network, a nationally televised satellite program introducing the latest innovations in psychiatry. Since 1997, he has been the host and producer of the Public Broadcasting System's Matters of the Mind with Dr. Jay Fawver, a weekly 30-minute live television program addressing mental health topics.
