Prior to relocating to Fort Wayne in October of 2000, Dr. Alan Yahanda, was on faculty at the University of Michigan as an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology. He received his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1985 and served as a resident and chief resident in General Surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, completing that training in 1991. Following this, he became an Assistant Chief of Service and Instructor in the Department of Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He then went on to complete a three-year specialty fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in 1995. Dr. Yahanda practices general surgical oncology, treating patients with malignancies of the gastrointestinal tract and breast, melanoma, and soft tissue sarcomas. He has a particular interest in cancers of the pancreas and hepatobiliary system and focuses on the use of a multidisciplinary approach to the care of the cancer patient. Dr. Yahanda is a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the Midwest Surgical Association, and the Frederick Coller Society. Dr. Yahanda enjoys snow skiing, multiple water sports, cooking, and most of all, spending time with his family.
