​To help you prepare for the arrival of your new baby, we ​offer a variety of classes for you and your family. A listing of the classes, along with descriptions and times, is below. To learn more, or to register, call (260) 672-6185. Our classes will be offered in the Parkview Women’s & Children’s Hospital and the adjacent Parkview Regional Medical Center.

Preparing for Childbirth

Parkview offers a one-day or three-session prenatal education class.  Partners are encouraged to attend.

To help you prepare for childbirth, this class covers the following:

  • Process of labor and birth

  • Relaxation and breathing techniques

  • Pain management options

  • Physical and emotional changes

Basic and Beyond Parenting

This class is designed to help you feel more confident by teaching you basic parenting skills and more. Partners are encouraged to attend this class, which covers topics such as:

  • Infant care skills

  • Calming a crying baby

  • Protecting your child

  • Choosing a care provider

  • Understanding infant sleep patterns

  • Breastfeeding skills and bottle-feeding

  • Car seat safety

The American Heart Association® Family & Friends® Infant and Child CPR and relief from choking course will be taught during the third class of the session.

Breastfeeding Class

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for the first 12 months of life. Taught by a certified lactation consultant, this one-time class is highly recommended if you are considering breastfeeding your baby. Partners are encouraged to attend. This class covers:

  • Benefits of breastfeeding

  • Correct positioning and latching

  • Pumping and storing breast milk

  • Common concerns and questions

Pet-Friendly Class

Join us to learn how you can help your pet cope with and adjust to the big change. You will also learn helpful pet training and home preparation tips that are designed for families who are expecting a baby. No pets allowed.

Grandparents Class

Grandparents can learn the latest information on swaddling and safe sleep practices, as well as car seat safety. They can also get tips to help support their own children as they step into parenthood. Before the end of the session, they will receive hands-on training in infant CPR and relief from choking.

Sibling Class

This interactive class allows kids to learn what a new baby looks like, how to become a “big helper,” and how to make friends with the new baby. Children get to tour the Family Birthing Center so they can see where Mommy will be when little brother or sister is born. Recommended for siblings 3 – 10 years of age.

Multiples Class

Whether you are expecting twins, triplets or more, our expert physicians and staff are prepared. Learn what to expect during delivery and once you are home. You will also receive a tour of our state-of-the-art 31-bed Newborn Intensive Care Unit. The hospital offers spacious, all-private rooms especially designed for multiple births.

Dad’s Boot Camp Class

This class is designed for fathers only. The class offers expectant fathers a unique opportunity to interact with new fathers and their babies, as well as seasoned fathers with years of experience. The class will explore the many roles of fatherhood in an effort to empower and support new dads. Topics discussed will include Safe Sleep and SIDs prevention, baby care, home safety, car seats, how to be a supportive labor coach and the transition to fatherhood.
