The Family Birthing Center at Parkview Huntington Hospital offers classes on childbirth, breastfeeding, parenting and more. Class information may change as the year progresses. To register or receive more information, call (260) 355-3640.

2017 Class Options


Preparing for Childbirth

Partners are encouraged to attend. To help you prepare for childbirth, this class covers the following:

  • Process of labor and birth
  • Relaxation and breathing techniques
  • Pain management options
  • Physical and emotional changes

Two-session weeknight option

Offered on Mondays, from 5:30 - 9 p.m., in classrooms 1, 2 and 3 on the lower level of Parkview Huntington Hospital

Jan. 23 and 30       March 20 and 27      May 15 and 22

July 10 and 17       Sept. 11 and 18     Nov. 6 and 13

Breastfeeding Class

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for the first 12 months of life. Taught by a certified lactation consultant, this one-time class is highly recommended if you are considering breastfeeding your baby. Partners are encouraged to attend. This class covers:

  • Benefits of breastfeeding
  • Correct positioning and latching
  • Pumping and storing breast milk
  • Common concerns and questions
 

Monday classes

 

Offered from 6 -8 p.m. in classrooms 1, 2 and 3 on the lower level of Parkview Huntington Hospital on the following dates:

Sibling Class

This interactive class allows kids to learn what a new baby looks like, how to become a “big helper,” and how to make friends with the new baby. Children get to tour the Family Birthing Center so they can see where Mommy will be when little brother or sister is born.

Thursday classes

Offered from 6 - 7 p.m. in classrooms 1, 2 and 3 on the lower level of Parkview Huntington Hospital on the following dates:

Safe Sleep Class

Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause of death among infants and children under one year of age. Attend this 90-minute class and learn ways to reduce the risk of SIDS. Those who qualify will receive a portable crib upon completion of the class.

One-session weekday option

Offered from 1 – 2:30 p.m. in classrooms 1, 2 and 3 on the lower level of Parkview Huntington Hospital on the following dates:​
