The Family Birthing Center at Parkview Huntington Hospital offers free classes on childbirth, breastfeeding and more. Class information may change as the year progresses. To register or receive more information, call (260) 355-3640.

 

2018 Class Options

 

Preparing for Childbirth

Partners are encouraged to attend. To help you prepare for childbirth, this class covers the following:

  • Process of labor and birth
  • Relaxation and breathing techniques
  • Pain management options
  • Physical and emotional changes

Two-session weeknight option

Offered on Mondays, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., in classrooms 1, 2 and 3 on the lower level of Parkview Huntington Hospital

Feb. 12 and 19       April 16 and 23      June 4 and 11

Aug. 6 and 13         Oct. 8 and 15          Dec. 3 and 10

 

Breastfeeding Class

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for the first 12 months of life. Taught by a certified lactation consultant, this one-time class is highly recommended if you are considering breastfeeding your baby. Partners are encouraged to attend. This class covers:

  • Benefits of breastfeeding
  • Correct positioning and latching
  • Pumping and storing breast milk
  • Common concerns and questions
 

Monday classes 

Offered from 6 to 8 p.m. in classrooms 1, 2 and 3 on the lower level of Parkview Huntington Hospital on the following dates:

Jan. 22     Mar. 19     May 7     July 16     Sept. 10     Nov. 5

 

Sibling Class

This interactive class allows kids to learn what a new baby looks like, how to become a “big helper,” and how to make friends with the new baby. Children get to tour the Family Birthing Center so they can see where Mommy will be when little brother or sister is born.

Thursday classes

Offered from 6 to 7 p.m. in classrooms 1 and 2 on the lower level of Parkview Huntington Hospital on the following dates:

Safe Sleep and SIDS Prevention Class

Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause of death among infants and children under one year of age. Attend this 60-minute class and learn ways to reduce the risk of SIDS. Those who meet certain eligibility requirements will receive a portable crib upon completion of the class.

One-session weekday option

 Offered from 2 to 3 p.m. in classrooms 1, 2 and 3 on the lower level of Parkview Huntington Hospital on the following dates:​
