What is a plastic surgeon?

A plastic surgeon (also known as a reconstructive surgeon) is a general surgeon who has received two additional years of training in plastic and reconstructive surgery. These surgeons are typically board certified, meaning they have passed a special test in plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is divided into two categories: cosmetic and reconstructive.  Plastic surgery is a medical art that seeks to heal, restore form and improve function. The profession  incorporates aesthetic techniques to maintain or enhance an individual’s appearance, contributing to improved self-esteem and psychological well-beings.

Do I need a referral from a family practice physician to see a plastic surgeon?

Every insurance company is different. Some insurance companies require a referral before seeing a specialist. Before scheduling an appointment, call your insurance company and ask what if your appointment and procedures will be covered.   For cosmetic procedures, you will be provided with a free, detailed quote.  Most patients elect to pay for these services using cash, credit card or bank check. Options for flexible financing are available upon request.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

When you come to your first appointment, bring someone you are comfortable discussing your visit and who can help you at home after your surgery. You should also bring your:

  • Driver’s license or other state/federally issued identification
  • List of medications
  • Any paper work that you received

What can I expect during my first appointment?

Your first appointment is a personal consultation with Dr. Miller and is an integral part of the decision-making process. During your consultation, Dr. Miller will listen to your concerns and offer both surgical and nonsurgical options that may be appropriate for you. You are encouraged to be an active participant in your evaluation, asking questions regarding any issues that may arise before, during and after the procedure. We want to fully understand your goals, expectations, aesthetic perceptions and anticipated results before surgery in order to achieve the surgical results that you desire.
