Congenital Heart Disease
Congenital heart disease describes conditions of the heart that occur before birth, such as abnormal development of the heart valve or heart muscle. Frequently, these conditions do not produce symptoms until individuals reach adulthood.
As in most types of heart disease, your physician will discuss your symptoms, medical history and risk factors. In addition,
your physician will perform a physical exam. Diagnostic tests may also be ordered to help identify the best type of treatment for you.
While treatment will depend on the condition that is diagnosed, common treatments include medications or surgery.
