Joint replacement and spine surgery care at Parkview Ortho Hospital is in the top 2% in the nation, according to a new report from Healthgrades released today. The report, American Hospital Quality Outcomes 2014: Healthgrades Report to the Nation, evaluates how approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide performed on risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for nearly 30 of the most common conditions treated and procedures performed from 2010 – 2012.
“The Parkview Ortho Hospital team, including our partner Ortho Northeast, is committed to achieving optimal patient outcomes,” said Julie Fleck, COO, Parkview Ortho Hospital. “Rankings such as this give us a bigger picture of what we accomplish when we strive to provide the best care possible. It’s a great honor to be recognized for three years in a row as a national leader for the quality orthopedic care we provide.”
According to Fleck, Parkview Ortho has a number of programs focused on achieving leading patient outcomes. Among them is a commitment to provide ongoing education of staff through skills labs, chart review and pre-hospital education to ensure optimal outcomes, along with a strong commitment by their physician partners, Ortho Northeast (ONE), who play an important role in reviews of quality data.
Healthgrades independently measures hospitals based on data that hospitals submit to the federal government. No hospital can opt in or out of the analysis, and no hospital pays to be measured. Healthgrades risk adjusts for patient demographic characteristics and clinical risk factors, thereby taking into account how sick patients are upon admission.
