How many residency positions are available?

Parkview accepts four residents each year.

What teaching opportunities are there for residents?

  • Residents will play an active role in precepting Doctor of Pharmacy students who are scheduled on rotation with them.  Parkview trains students from Purdue University, Butler University, Ohio Northern University, University of Toledo, Manchester University and other academic institutions.

  • Residents have the opportunity to participate in the Indiana Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Program (IPTeC) coordinated with Purdue University College of Pharmacy and Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

  • Residents give formal presentations to the Pharmacy staff on many of their rotation experiences.  In addition, residents have opportunities to provide in-service education to various healthcare professionals throughout the health system.

  • Residents have the opportunity to provide a didactic lecture at Manchester University College of Pharmacy.

  • Residents have the opportunity to participate in pharmacy practice laboratory sessions at Manchester University College of Pharmacy.

  • Residents provide Doctor of Pharmacy students topic discussions throughout the year.  These topic discussions are held solely with the resident being the content expert in the room.

What is the staffing requirement?

Residents will have staffing responsibilities every other weekend, as well as one major and one minor holiday. Residents will staff two and one-half days during Northwest Allen County Schools Spring Break and up to one week during Northwest Allen County Schools Winter Break. Residents are given compensation days throughout the year to offset staffing every other weekend

What is the licensure policy for PGY1 residents? 

All residents entering the program must be fully licensed by August 31.  Failure to become licensed by this date will likely result in the resident's dismissal from the program.

What is the standard of living and notable social opportunities in Fort Wayne, Indiana?

Parkview Regional Medical Center is located in Fort Wayne, IN. Fort Wayne has a growing downtown area with endless possibilities for recreational activities.  In August of 2016, Fort Wayne was named number one when it comes to being the most affordable city in the country, according to a study by Niche. Fort Wayne offers a wide variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment option.  Program residents will discover that Fort Wayne has earned the nickname as “City of Restaurants” and “City of Churches.”  Many affordable options for housing are available in the surrounding area with close proximity to Parkview Regional Medical Center.

Fort Wayne is a great place for apartment living!  According to www.apartmentlist.com, of the Top 100 cities in the United States, Fort Wayne is ranked #99, based on the ranking of the average price of apartments in July 2016 (the higher the number, the better).  Many apartment complexes include washer and dryer, oversized closets, patio or balcony, fitness center, pool access and opportunity to bring a pet. Come to Fort Wayne and live affordably all year long.
