Volunteers

As a Parkview Whitley Hospital volunteer, you become an important part of the hospital and team. Your efforts will benefit the hospital and the patients we serve in countless ways. By volunteering, you can obtain personal satisfaction from contributing to the welfare of those in need. Every year, many volunteers find fulfillment, practical work experience and companionship at Parkview Whitley Hospital.

To be considered for a volunteer position, you must:

  • Submit an application
  • Provide proof of age (14 years or older)
  • Provide one personal reference
  • Interview
  • Be screened for TB (tuberculosis testing and reading required)
  • Attend orientation

Volunteer Positions
Greeter
Welcome our guests, escort, transport wheelchair patients and run errands. This position requires the ability to be on your feet and on the go. 
Hours: 8 a.m. to noon or noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend hours are also available.

Gift Shop Cashier
Operate the cash register and credit card machine, provide customer service to our guests and help with other tasks in the gift shop.
Hours: 8 a.m. to noon, noon to 4 p.m., or 4 to 8 p.m. Weekend hours are also available.

Clerical Assistant
Many of our clerical areas use volunteer assistance with a variety of duties. Hours and days vary depending on departments’ needs.

Outpatient Services Assistant
Welcome our patients, escort hem to their diagnostic testing areas, and assist with a variety of tasks. 
Hours: Monday through Friday, 1:30 − 3 p.m.

Meals on Wheels Driver
Deliver meals to those who are homebound within a one-mile radius of the city limits in Columbia City.
Hours: 10:45 to Noon in most cases.

Clinic Assistant
Help with telephones, room changes, escorts and a variety of tasks for our outpatient clinics.
Hours: Depends on openings.

Evening Greeter
Greet our guests, direct them, provide wheelchair transports and assist the evening registration staff.
Hours: Daily, 4 − 8 p.m.

Chaplain
The volunteer chaplains are local clergy who are placed on a list and called as needed to assist patients or families with their spiritual needs.

Chaplain’s Assistant
Take a Guideposts magazine to all new admissions and offer to call their home church or a chaplain. Shift length depends on patient census.

Cookie Baker
Bake cookies in the hospital and deliver them to the inpatient and lobby areas. Shift length depends on patient census.
