Classes

Preparing for Childbirth Class
Preparation is key to having a confident, personally satisfying birthing experience. Our recently re-structured classes are designed to help you and your partner explore the physical, emotional and social aspects of birth. You will learn coping strategies for labor, including breathing and relaxation techniques. Also included is information on pain management options, cesarean births, as well as the developmental stages of a newborn. Tours of the Parkview Noble Family Birthing Center are also offered.

Prenatal Breastfeeding
This class is highly encouraged if you are considering breastfeeding your baby. We give you practical information about the benefits of breastfeeding, and you will learn the
importance of correct positioning and latching-on, pumping and storing of milk. Partners are welcome to attend. A certified lactation consultant leads this one-session class.

Sibling Class
This class is for children ages 4 – 8 and will teach them about their role as a new big brother or sister. A parent or adult family member is asked to attend with the child.

Joy of Parenthood (Parenting Class)
This class offers new and repeat parents a wide variety of information including such topics as preparing your home for the new baby, baby care, growth and development, car seat safety, CPR, SIDS, immunizations and more.

Bedtime Basics For Babies/Safe Sleep Education
This 90-minute class provides education for safe sleep practices. Safety-approved cribs are for parents who qualify.

Bedtime Basics for Babies/Safe Sleep participants receive a Beds and Britches, Etc. (B.A.B.E.) coupon. (B.A.B.E. is a community-based incentive program that provides new clothing and supplies for parents with children ages newborn through five. The program operates a boutique where parents can exchange coupons they earn by participating in local programs and services that benefit themselves as parents as well as their babies and young children.)

For more information about class meeting dates and times or availability, call (260) 347-8345.

Your Hospital Stay
Our Family Birthing Center is a state-of-the-art facility that features nine private rooms, each including its own bathroom and shower. Of the nine rooms, five are post-partum rooms; two are for labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum and two are antepartum rooms, for patients who are preterm or require observation in a hospital setting.

Every room has an attractive, soothing décor and is furnished with a sleeper sofa should Dad need to rest and a glider/rocker for Mom. All rooms have TVs and are Wi-Fi Internet accessible. For peace of mind, all of the labor and delivery rooms feature the latest fetal monitoring system.

Our recently expanded nursery also offers infants cozy bassinets and radiant warmers. Windows to the hallway comprise an entire wall of the nursery, so that family members may look in on the new arrivals.

And the  Infant Protection System provides enhanced security throughout the unit, while allowing greater flexibility for visiting hours.

Although every parent wants to have a healthy baby, some infants are born prematurely or become ill after birth. In that event, the Parkview Noble Hospital Special Care Nursery is well prepared to provide specialized care for your baby. If your physician decides further attention is needed, a state-of-the-art newborn intensive care unit at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Fort Wayne is available 24/7 with board-certified neonatologists.

A board-certified lactation consultant (who is also a member of our family birthing center nursing staff) is available to assist new moms with breastfeeding needs. Parkview Noble Hospital also offers a breastfeeding support group. For more information on the support group, please contact the Parkview Noble lactation consultant at (260) 347-8337.

The Family Birthing Center staff cares for and supports each new mother and baby throughout their stay to provide a special birthing experience for every family.
