Classes

Preparing for Childbirth Class
Preparation is key to having a confident, personally satisfying birthing experience. This class is designed to help you and your partner explore the physical, emotional and social aspects of birth. You will learn coping strategies for labor, including focused breathing, movement and positioning, labor support, massage and relaxation. Also included is information on pain management options, cesarean births and postpartum stages.

Breastfeeding Your Baby
This class is highly encouraged if you are considering breastfeeding your baby. We give you practical information about the benefits of breastfeeding, and you will learn the importance of correct positioning and latching-on, pumping and storing of milk. Partners are welcome to attend. A certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) leads this one-session class.

Parkview Breastfeeding Mom’s Group
This support group for mothers is provided every Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. You may stop in at any time to speak with the lactation consultant, have your baby weighed and, most importantly, share personal tips and experiences with other moms.

Bedtime Basics for Babies/Safe Sleep Education
This 90-minute class provides education for safe sleep practices and SIDS prevention. Following completion of the class, parents are given a portable crib, crib sheet, sleep sack and pacifier. This class is part of a research project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and First Candle. Pre-registration is required.

To register or receive more information, call (260) 355-3651.

Photos
New babies are exciting. With your permission, a representative from our baby photo company will photograph your newborn before you leave the hospital. To capture the moment and remember this very special day, you may purchase your newborn’s photo from Portraits by Kim. With your permission, your pictures will be posted on www.kimberlysphotos.com, so friends and family members may see your new arrival.

Special Care Nursery
Although every parent wants to have a healthy baby, some infants are born prematurely or become ill after birth. In that event, the Parkview Huntington Hospital Special Care Nursery is well prepared to provide specialized care for your baby. If your physician decides further attention is needed, a state-of-the-art newborn intensive care unit at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Fort Wayne is available 24/7 with board-certified neonatologists.
