Motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death among American teens.
Parkview is committed to reducing the number of teen drivers involved in car crashes. Programs like Don’t Text & Drive and Don’t Drink & Drive present information and strategies to help teens minimize specific situations that cause distractions while driving. In addition, the Parkview sponsors a program to enhance decision making and proper mechanics for teenage drivers.
The Parkview Pediatric Trauma Center hosts an annual Parent-Teen Driving Contract Seminar each year to help area parents promote safe driving practices for their teenagers. At the seminar, parents and teens receive an outline of topics related to safe driving and spend time together dedicated to drafting their own driving rules.
Benefits of a parent-teen driving contract include:
- Defining ground rules for driving
- Reducing conflict by setting up consequences for times when rules might be broken
- Promoting safe driving habits
