New treatment options through research
If you’re being treated at the Parkview Heart Institute, you might be offered treatment options only available a few places in the world.

The Parkview Heart Institute works closely with the Parkview Research Center, the area’s only hospital-based clinical research facility. Patients in this area can take part in important medical studies designed to help gain U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approval for new technology, procedures and medicines. The center currently has about 35 clinical trials in progress, each one lasting one to five years.

Some of the medical advances evaluated in the past at the Parkview Research Center include implantable defibrillators, carotid stents and drugs used to treat chest pain, heart attack, heart failure, high cholesterol and stroke.

Studies at the Parkview Research Center, established in 1983 at Fort Wayne Cardiology by Michael J. Mirro, MD, and moved to Parkview in 1995, focus primarily on cardiovascular problems. This research formed the basis for the creation of the Parkview Heart Institute, and ongoing research means that the Institute will continue to provide the highest standard of heart care for the region.
