Early detection and prevention
The team of oncology-certified professionals at the Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center is committed to educating the public about cancer prevention and providing opportunities for early detection. Funding through the Community Health Improvement Program of the Parkview Foundation helps support:
- Distribution of thousands of free colorectal cancer home test kits – Kits are distributed at health fairs and other public gatherings as well as to individuals who contact the cancer center. Nearly 10,000 kits were handed out in 2011.
- Free PSA (prostate-specific antigen) screening for men over age 40 at an annual event in downtown Fort Wayne.
- Mobile mammography – The center is a partner with Francine’s Friends in the operation and promotion of the mobile mammography coach.
