The Francine’s Friends Mobile Mammography coach brings high-quality, life-saving mammography screening to women across northeast Indiana at locations more convenient to their homes or workplaces. The mobile mammography program is a partnership of the Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Breast Diagnostic Center and Francine’s Friends.

The interior of the 40-foot-long motor coach is designed for complete privacy. Radiologic technologists from the Breast Diagnostic Center (BDC) staff the coach, which is furnished with the same FDA-approved and Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA)-approved equipment as the two stationary sites of the BDC. A mammogram takes only about 15 minutes. Board-certified breast-imaging radiologists from FW Radiology interpret the exams.
Screening mammography through this mobile service is for women who:
- Are age 35 and older and have not had a mammogram in the past 12 months
- Have no current history of breast cancer or experiencing problems with their breasts
- Are insured or uninsured
Many insurance plans are accepted, and funding is available to cover expenses for women who do not have sufficient financial resources.
The program began in 2005. In the first seven years, more than 21,500 screenings were given. Of the women screened, 27 percent had never had a mammogram or had not had one in the preceding three years. The coach now provides mammography access to women at more than 1,500 businesses, churches, fitness centers, schools and other sites in northeast Indiana and the surrounding counties.
