Behavioral Health

Youth Services

If a child or adolescent is acting out or behaving in an unusual manner, it can be difficult for his or her parents to determine whether the behavior is just “a phase” or an indication of a more serious situation.

Warning signs
The experienced mental health professionals at Parkview Behavioral Health can help parents who are concerned because their children are struggling with one or more of these problems:

  • Changing groups of friends
  • Lack of interest in favorite activities
  • Eating or sleeping problems
  • Poor school performance
  • Suspected alcohol or drug use
  • Suicidal thoughts or gestures
  • Increased periods of depression or agitation
  • Running away from home
  • Mood swings
  • Family conflicts

Age Appropriate Treatment
Parkview Behavioral Health is northeast Indiana’s only provider of inpatient mental health services for children and adolescents experiencing emotional and behavioral problems. The Youth Services program provides stabilization and treatment for:

  • Children ages 5 to 12
  • Adolescents ages 13 to 18

Each age group is treated in a supportive, structured environment in separate, dedicated areas of the Beacon Street facility in Fort Wayne. In addition to clinical services, an outdoor recreation area enables the children to participate in healthy and appropriate activities.

Adolescent treatment is uniquely tailored to teens’ needs and addresses issues such as adjustment difficulties and destructive behaviors.

Experienced, compassionate staff members help youngsters develop the necessary skills to adapt to family and school demands and to function more successfully in school, home and the community.
