Life isn’t always a smooth road. At Parkview Behavioral Health, we offer inpatient and intensive outpatient programs designed to help people with emotional difficulties, as well as specific programs to help people overcome chemical dependency.
Inpatient programs
Inpatient services are provided for individuals who need supervised short-term intervention. Parkview psychiatrists and other staff mental health professionals create a personal treatment plan that may incorporate any of a variety of mental health tools, including medication, one-on-one counseling, group interaction and other approaches. Delivered in a calming, supportive environment, inpatient care helps stabilize escalating behaviors and pave the way for improvement in the individual’s life after he or she leaves the facility.
Intensive outpatient programs
Intensive outpatient treatment is provided for individuals who are struggling with issues – such as depression, anxiety, mood disorders and post-traumatic stress – but are capable of maintaining home and work routines while receiving treatment and working on recovery. Group meetings and one-on-one sessions with a mental health nurse or counselor:
- Help the individual understand his or her diagnosis and the importance of taking prescribed medications
- Provide coping skills and approaches for changing negative attitudes and beliefs
- Help the individual become more aware of his or her emotions and able to express needs appropriately
- Build self-esteem and interpersonal skills
Chemical dependency treatment
Chemical dependency treatment is provided on an outpatient basis. Any individual who recognizes signs of chemical dependency in himself or herself may join the treatment program. With help, the person can learn new ways to cope and regain the well-being he or she has lost to alcohol and drugs.
Signs of chemical dependency may include a combination of:
- Extreme mood changes
- Chronic anger
- Problems with job performance or school
- Strained marital and family relationships
- Growing financial problems
Parkview Behavioral Health’s outpatient program for chemical dependency consists of three phases of treatment:
- Education helps the person understand what has led to the need for treatment.
- Therapeutic intervention examines the impact of drug use on the person – and others in his or her life – and helps him or her regain a sense of balance in life.
- Aftercare offers continued support as the person applies the tools of recovery to daily living.
Group meetings are held three days a week, two to three hours a day. Educational materials are provided to help build self-awareness, self-esteem and interpersonal skills. Family members or significant others are strongly encouraged to be actively involved in the treatment process, because their support is crucial to success.
