Early detection and prevention
The team of oncology-certified professionals at the Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center is committed to educating the public about cancer prevention and providing opportunities for early detection. Funding through the Community Health Improvement Program of the Parkview Foundation helps support:
- Distribution of thousands of free colorectal cancer home test kits – Availability of the kits is advertised, and kits are distributed at health fairs and other public gatherings. Some 9,000 kits were handed out in 2008.
- Free PSA (prostate-specific antigen) screening for men over age 40 at an annual event at the center.
- Mobile mammography – The center is a partner with Francine’s Friends in the operation and promotion of the mobile mammography coach.
