At Parkview Health caring comes in many forms, often outside of hospital walls. Because the Parkview mission is to build a healthier community, we’re committed to innovative approaches that go beyond traditional hospital care.
Coordinated through the Parkview Hospital Foundation, the Community Health Improvement Program was established in 1998 as a means of providing support through collaborative community partnerships. Each hospital in the Parkview Health system returns 10 percent of its annual operating surplus back to the community through community health improvement initiatives.
Every three years, Parkview sponsors a community health survey to identify health needs within northeast Indiana, particularly the five counties in which Parkview hospitals exist. This scientific study gathers information about services provided by Parkview and others as well as any unmet health needs. Parkview and its health partners are then able to set priorities for meeting those needs uncovered by the survey.
The most recent survey took place early in 2007 and helped to identify initiatives for 2008. Community health improvement efforts are prioritized based on the health survey.

In addition, Parkview collaborated with several other healthcare providers to conduct a specialized health needs survey of low-income residents of Allen County. Parkview will involve our own healthcare professionals and will join with community partners to study these issues and design strategies to impact health disparities. For more information about the survey, call Jill McAllister, Community Health Improvement, at (260) 373-7982.
