Chromosome abnormalities can be linked to many cancers, hematological conditions, leukemias and lymphomas. Genetic testing results can be helpful in both the diagnosis and treatment planning processes.
Cancers:
- Acute Myelocytic Leukemias (AML)
- Chronic Myelocytic Leukemias (CML)
- Myelodsyplastic Syndromes (MDS)
- Myeloproliferative Disorders (MPD)
- Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL)
- Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)
- Lymphomas
- Multiple Myeloma
- Anemia
- Breast Cancer (HER-2/neu testing)
Test types
Oncology Chromosome can be ordered for cytogenetic diagnosis of hematological disorders.
FISH (fluorescent in situ hybridization) testing can be ordered to determine specific translocations found in certain hematological disorders.
Specimen required
Oncology Chromosome
3.0 ml bone marrow in a Sodium (Na) Heparin Tube and
3.0 ml whole blood in a Sodium (Na) Heparin Tube
Should be room temperature
FISH testing
RARA, BCR-ABL (Philadelphia), CLL, Inverted 16, Her-2/neu
3.0 ml bone marrow in a Sodium (Na) Heparin Tube and
3.0 ml whole blood in a Sodium (Na) Heparin Tube
Should be room temperature
NOTE: For Her-2/neu, call the Genetics Center at (260) 266-9250. This specimen is generally run in coordination with Pathology.
BCR-ABL (real-time or PCR)
This is a send-out test: Call the Genetics Center for information.
