Resume and Interview Tips

At Parkview we are seeking individuals who love what they do and have a motivation to better the community they serve. In this spirit, we’d like to offer suggestions on how to make the most of your resume and interview experience.

Your resume is often the first opportunity an employer has to meet you. It is your chance to sell your skills and launch the employer’s first impression of you. Make it a great one.

A well-prepared resume may increase your chances of being considered for an interview. Make it concise and easy to read. Clearly describe your expertise, work history and education.

Include applicable awards and accomplishments in your resume. Be specific!

Be honest. Don’t exaggerate on titles, duties or dates. Discovering inaccurate information could disqualify you from consideration.

Make sure your contact information is current. List the best method of contact and review your voice mail and e-mail address to ensure that it is professional.

Edit your work. Use the Spell Check feature on your computer or ask a friend to review your resume. Errors suggest a lack of attention to detail.

Avoid photos, graphics and text boxes. Limit the use of bold, italics or underlined text.

Avoid abbreviations.

Interviewing
During the interview process, our intent is to discover your job-related skills and capabilities. Your specific interview agenda and questions will vary depending on the position you seek and the department with which you are interviewing. Here are some general tips:

  • Do your research on the employer and the position prior to the interview.
  • Make a list of questions to ask the interviewer. This is your opportunity to show that you have prepared and have true interest in the job.
  • Come well rested. Be mentally prepared and at your best.
  • Be on time. Arriving a few minutes early for an interview supports your interest in the position.
  • Dress appropriately.
  • Be honest.
  • Be yourself. Natural enthusiasm and a positive attitude will make a lasting positive impression.
  • Be prepared for behavioral-based questions. These questions draw on your past experience and require you to think on the spot.
  • Prepare samples of your work. If the position requires certain skills that can be demonstrated, take samples of past work with you to the interview. For instance if you worked on a project for your current employer and the same skills would apply to the new position, take a sample of the project task list (added) with you.
  • Take notes. During the interview you will receive specific information regarding the position, work schedule, education or certification requirements, department and work team, etc.
