Parkview leading seasonal flu vaccination effort

1/24/2010

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 — Nurses from Parkview Hospital today visited Forest Park Elementary School to give seasonal flu vaccinations to students. Parkview is partnering with Super Shot, Inc. and local schools to vaccinate as many children as possible.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to have their child receive the seasonal flu vaccination. Several clinics were held last week and a number of others will be held the remainder of this week for students who attend the schools listed below.

Remaining clinics:
*Tuesday, Jan. 26; Franke Park, Lindley and Washington elementary schools
*Wednesday, Jan. 27; Harrison Hill, Maplewood and Waynedale elementary schools
*Thursday, Jan. 28; Fairfield, Indian Village, South Wayne, and Study elementary schools
*Friday, Jan. 29; Brentwood, Northcrest and Price elementary schools

“Influenza vaccinations are so important, and we are pleased to be working together with local schools to make sure children are receiving necessary vaccinations,” said Connie Kerrigan, manager of community nursing, Parkview Hospital. “Parkview’s mission is to improve the health of the communities we serve. These vaccination clinics complement our mission and help children be as healthy and safe as possible.”

“The goal of Health Services at Fort Wayne Community Schools is to keep students healthy and ready to learn, so we are happy to partner with Parkview Hospital and Super Shot Inc. on vaccinating our students against the flu,” said Mary Hess, FWCS Health Services specialist. “Flu mist is an exceptionally good fit for vaccinating our students because the administration is quick and pain-free which improves the health of students while causing minimal disruption to the classroom.”

Parents of students who do not attend any of the participating schools but are interested in having their child vaccinated should contact their health care provider or Super Shot for vaccination opportunities.
