7/26/2009

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Monday, July 27, 2009 — Parkview Hospital officials today announced that Parkview Hospital has been re-verified as a Level II Adult Trauma Center and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee, an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons.

Parkview Hospital has been a verified Level II Adult Trauma Center since 2000 and a verified Level II Pediatric Trauma Center since 2003.

“We are pleased to be recognized as an experienced national leader in trauma services,” said Sue Ehinger, Chief Operating Officer, Parkview Hospital. “Our mission is to improve the health of the communities we serve.”

In addition to providing patient care, Parkview also has a trauma prevention program, which is an educational and outreach initiative aimed at preventing serious injuries in the community.

Prevention initiatives:
• Parent/teen driving contract seminars
• Don’t Text & Drive campaign
• Research study on helmet use by preschool children
• Helmet safety campaign
• Parkview Safety Store
• Bike Rodeo
• Outreach programs to area schools

“Parkview Hospital will continue to provide excellent trauma care to patients and their families,” said Dr. Mary Aaland, Medical Director of Trauma Services, Parkview Hospital. “Our focus is to provide the best patient-centered care possible. We also look forward to engaging the community in on-going prevention campaigns in an effort to reduce serious injuries in our community.”

In 2008, over 1,800 trauma patients were admitted to Parkview Hospital.
